about

Before Hip Hop, before House, before Disco, before Funk, before Rock 'N Roll...there was Jazz. Undoubtedly, jazz music has been a significant influence in creating some of music history's most memorable songs in any genre you can fathom; and it also created some of the most sought after samples and drum solos for producers and break connoisseurs.

It's no secret that hip hop music reintroduced forgotten passages from many musical facets through the sampling, looping, and the rearrangement of its instrumental ancestors. However, there never has been a more compelling sound than the fusion of jazz music with analog sampled drums which defines the music revolution known as the "Golden Age" of Hip Hop.

Although never left behind, this remix seeks to reestablish the traditional craftsmanship of beat making of the late 80's and early 90's in this reinterpretation of Nicki Minaj's "Moment 4 Life".

Because Nicki is a native from Queens, New York, I found it appropriate to include samples of Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie to pay homage to the Juice Crew from the very same borough.

As a producer who idolizes the greats such as Duke Ellington and Burt Baccarat who orchestrated large jazz bands in their careers, I proudly present my dream "band": The AlphaQ Jazz Symphony.

The artwork for this remix was inspired by the quintessential Blue Note vinyl record covers of the 1960's. Sit back and enjoy the ride...
